Our rides are listed in full and we hope you enjoy them enough to become a WCBC member. If you already are a member, we appreciate your support which helps pay for this web site. Your continued support is needed for our long term success as an organization which promotes bicycling in the tri-state area.

Some of our rides are now being published far in advance. Please check closer to the actual date of the ride to ensure that it is still scheduled.

WEEKEND RIDES

FEB. SUNDAYS - Barksdale Ride
NEW DAY AND START TIME!! Leave 9:00 a.m. SHARP from Handloff Park (Mapquest Barksdale and Casho Mill Roads, Newark, DE) on Sundays. This is the former regular Saturday Ride moved to Sunday. The intent of this ride is to ride as a GROUP at a steady endurance-type pace, NOT a race pace. The route and distance can change week to week but plan on 45-55 rolling to hilly miles at 16-17 mph. The posted average speed (16-17 mph) is the overall average parking lot to parking lot. It is NOT the rolling or moving speed, so there may be times when our rolling speed is greater (or less) depending on the terrain. Ride format is double pace line, steady tempo. There are no stops. HELMETS REQUIRED!! Please bring signed waiver with you (see www.whiteclaybicycleclub.org under Ride Leader Information). SAT., FEB. 6 - Post House (Not Post Holes!)

Leave Paper Mill Park (Poly Drummond & Paper Mill Roads, Newark, DE) at 9:00 am for a 40-45 mile, rolling to hilly ride to Nottingham at 13-14 mph. Plan to have breakfast or lunch at the Post House. Ride Leader: Mike Barker, 302-998-7684; biker.mike43@gmail.com.


SAT., FEB. 6 - People’s Plaza Lunch
Leave People’s Plaza near the recycling bins, Glasgow, at 10:00 am for a 35-40 mile ride at approximately 15 mph. We will have at least one stop. Join us for lunch after the ride at the Safeway Cafe. Ride Leaders: Ed & Susan McNulty, 302-834-7429, smcnulty@verizon.net.


SUN., FEB. 7 - Ashland-Northbrook
Meet at 10:00 am at Ashland Nature Center (junction of Brackenville and Barley Mill Roads, Hockessin, DE) for a rolling, 30 mile ride, 11-13 mph. SUN., FEB. 7 - Cabin Fever Ride
Leave Dunbar’s Cyclery on Philadelphia Pike, just north of Washington Street Extension, at 1:00 pm sharp. Routes will vary depending on weather and road conditions. Temp must be above 35 degrees. No one will be dropped as long as they keep close to 12-15 mph. Mileage will be 15-20 miles. SAT., FEB. 13 -Little Anthony’s Pizza
This 61-mile ride will take us to lunch at Little Anthony’s in Rockville, PA, near Honey Brook. After lunch we will see Isabella Furnace. There are some hills, and the pace will average about 14 mph. Start 9:00 am behind the Chadds Ford Post Office, US 1 at Old Rt. 100. Ride Leader: Wally Hertler wallyhert@verizon.net.


SUN., FEB. 14 - Icicle Warmup
If you haven’t been on your bike all winter, it is time to start your spring training so that you will be ready for the Icicle on March 27. There will be two rides every week. Dave Vispi and Ted Ryser will lead a group half the distance of the ride and at a pace of 12-13 mph. Leave from Handloff Park (formerly Barksdale Park) on the corner of Casho Mill and Barksdale Road at 10:00 am for a 30 mile ride towards Chesapeake City at 14-15 mph. Please bring a snack – there will be a stop but no food available at the stop. Each week the rides will be progressively longer. SAT., FEB. 20 - Perkiomen Trail
We will check out the “Perk” in winter again this year. Mostly flat and dirt (bring ATB bike), approximately 45-50 miles, with a pizza stop in the middle of the ride. Leave from the Valley Forge National Park visitor’s center lower parking lot, that’s... LOWER... parking lot, at 9:00 am. SAT., FEB. 20 - Northbrook 50
Meet at Paper Mill Park at 9:00 am for a 50 mile hilly ride at 12-14 mph to the Northbrook Market where we can stop for hot chocolate and doughnuts. SUN., FEB. 21 - Icicle Warmup
Two rides leaving from Handloff Park (formerly Barksdale Park) on the corner of Casho Mill and Barksdale Road at 10:00 am for a 30-35 mile ride to Landenberg at 14 mph. Dave Vispi will lead a group for a 20 mile ride at a pace of 11-12 mph. Please bring a snack or money for a snack if you plan to go to the Landenberg Store. SAT., FEB. 27 - Ride to Delaware City

Meet by the recycling bins at Peoples Plaza Safeway (Glasgow, DE). We’ll ride out to Delaware City and back. Distance will be 25-30 miles and speed will be 11-14 mph. Distance will be adjusted for the weather conditions. Ride Leader: Pat Lavery Sr. plavery12@comcast.net

Weeknight Rides

Wednesdays Fly by Night - Newark
Leave Papermill Park at 6:30 pm for a 20 mile ride around residential areas in Newark. Meet in parking lot up behind the church. The pace will be 12-14 mph to insure that we don’t outrun our headlights (front and rear lights required). The ride will be canceled if black ice conditions exist, or if the temperature at the start of the ride is forecasted to dip below freezing.
