MAY 1-2, 2010 - Hershey Tour Weekend
Leave Papermill Park in Newark
at 7:30 am for a 90-95 mile hilly ride to Hershey at 13-14 mph through
beautiful and scenic Lancaster County. The two-day trip will be through
four counties and two states. This is a fully loaded two day tour to the
Hershey area and Chocolate World--no SAG--you have to carry your own bags.
We will spend the night at the Travelodge or White Rose Motel and then
return on Sunday for about 190 miles for the two day trip. This tour is
back by popular demand so you can ask previous participants for comments.
If you can find a place to park in Gap, you can make it a 110-120 mile
round trip on mostly rolling terrain--no big climbs. The full trip will
include about 12,000 feet of climbing. If interested, contact Mario Nappa
at ibikealot@gmail.com.
MAY
7-10, 2010
- May Tour
This is the first in a series of multi-day tours that will be offered
in 2010. The May Tour is the shortest tour and possibly the easiest because
of the flat terrain. It’s a good place to start if you’ve
thought about giving multi-day bicycle touring a try, or have done a weekend
tour but wanted to try something a few days longer. This is a self-paced,
self-contained tour with no sag support. Participants are responsible
for carrying their own gear and making their own lodging reservations.
(Note: If you wish to share a room, we suggest posting something on the
WCBC listserve.) Cue sheets and gps files will be provided as well as
a list of suggested motels.
Friday, May 7. We’ll depart
the Middletown, Delaware, area and ride 83 miles to Rehoboth where we’ll
spend the night.
Saturday, May 8. We’ll head
west crossing the state of Delaware at one of the widest points before
arriving at our destination in Easton, MD (66 miles).
Sunday, May 9. There are several
choices for the day. We can ride in the Eastern Shore area passing through
St. Michaels, Tilghman Island and Oxford (40-60 miles). Or if you don’t
feel like riding, take a walking tour of Easton’s historic area.
And for those who really want some adventure – ride your bike to
Tilghman Island and rent a kayak for a 4-hour tour of the Poplar Islands!
Monday, May 10. We’ll return
home to Middletown (63 miles), passing through Tuckahoe State Park along
the way.
If you have any questions or are interested in this
tour, please contact: Nancy Waddell (waddelne@gmail.com), John McCormick
(j.c.mccormick@verizon.net), or Dwight Siers (das451@comcast.net). Details
