Savage Century

Join the “fun” and celebrate the 32nd annual Savage Century ride, one of the most scenic and difficult (if you choose) rides in our area. Select a route–40, 60, 75 or 100 miles (the major hills are only on the 75 and 100 mile loops; 40 and 60 mile loops have a few short climbs to make flat-landers do some work) and enjoy one of the premier rides in the mid-Atlantic and the support of the White Clay Bike Club.

Many have taken the challenge of the Savage as a “ride of passage” while others return year after year to enjoy beauty of Chester and Lancaster Counties – the simple charm of Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish farmlands and the scenic vistas from the hills along the Susquehanna River. Warm up on the rolling hills heading out of Newark to Nottingham, PA, then head for the hills and play Lance Armstrong on the infamous Bald Eagle Hill, Fishing Creek Hill, or Duck Hill. It is recommended that for the longer loops bikes be equipped with a low of 40-gear inches (e.g. 28 tooth rear sprocket and 42-tooth chain ring) or lower to prevent undue straining on the major hills. Whether you ride it for the beauty or the beast, it’s worth the effort.
